Celebrate Spring in Stowe at These 8 Events

With the last few days of winter slipping by, we’re looking forward to the warmer weather events and activities happening in Stowe. As the snow softens, the sap will start flowing, ushering in Vermont’s sweetest season and with it, many opportunities to celebrate spring in Stowe. From ski racing and maple syrup festivals to TED Talks and the popular Stowe Craft Brew Race, there are a variety of ways to get outside and shake off the winter blues. Below are just a few of favorite spring events in Stowe:

Retro 80s Weekend
When: March 22 – 24, 2019
Where: Stowe Mountain Resort

Travel back in time to 1985 for the 9th Annual Retro 80s Weekend at Stowe Mountain Resort. Break out your mullet, neon colors and pegged pants for this late season celebration! Stop by the Rusty Nail on Friday and Saturday nights for karaoke, break dancing and music.

Vermont Maple Open House Weekend
When: March 23 – 24, 2019
Where: Various Stowe Locations

Spring’s chilly nights and warm days will mark the beginning of Vermont’s sweetest season, and during the Vermont Maple Open House Weekend, visitors are invited to experience the production of maple syrup. Whether you’re hoping for some samples, sugar-on-snow or you simply want to know more, look for a local Stowe sugar house – where there’s steam, there’s syrup!

Insider tip: Local sugarhouses at Nebraska Knoll Sugar Farm and Stowe Maple Products will be participating in this event, but you can stop by anytime during the season for a first-hand experience. Please call in advance for hours.

Maple Sugar Festival
When: March 23 – 24, 2019
Where: Boyden Valley Winery & Spirits

Take a scenic drive and join Boyden Valley Winery & Spirits for the annual Maple Sugar Festival to celebrate the sugaring season. Boyden Valley Winery has been boiling their own organic maple syrup for more than four generations, using a wood-fired evaporator with minimal processing. Stop by the winery March 23 – 24 for free demonstrations, samples, maple cocktail tastings, maple milkshakes made with Vermont Ice Maple Crème and more. This event is free to the public as part of the Maple Open House Weekend.

Stowe Sugar Slalom
When: April 6, 2019
Where: Stowe Mountain Resort

One of the most recognized alpine races in America, the Stowe Sugar Slalom is a local favorite that will attract hundreds of avid racers and spectators. All participants are invited dress up in costumes best representing the Spring Celebration theme. This event will feature music, a BBQ on the hill and Vermont treats at the finish line, such as donuts and sugar-on-snow.

Closing Day Celebration
When: April 21, 2019
Where: Stowe Mountain Resort

Finish the season strong and in style at Stowe Mountain Resort! This year’s closing day is Sunday, April 21, 2019 and will feature a DJ party, plenty of snow and sunshine. Gather your friends and celebrate this record-breaking snow year.

Insider Tip: As Closing Day coincides with Easter Sunday, take an early-morning Gondola ride to the top for a Sunrise Service from Mt. Mansfield, while watching the sun rise over the Vermont hills.

Stowe Weekend of Hope
When: May 3 – 5, 2019
Where: Various Stowe locations

The 19th Annual Stowe Weekend of Hope is a three-day event where cancer survivors and their families will have the chance to attend lectures and seminars. This retreat is an inspirational and enriching experience that provides support for the survivor, care giver and family members. Registration for this event will begin on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.

TEDxStowe 2019
When: May 9, 2019
Where: Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center

Join TEDxStowe and Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center for the second annual TEDxStowe conference, featuring local speakers who are thought leaders, movement starters and business innovators for Vermont. This year’s event theme, A Long Trail, is sure to offer inspirational presentations.

Stowe Craft Brew Race
When: May 18, 2019
Where: Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa

Dust off your running shoes and kick off your spring racing schedule with the Stowe Craft Brew Race! This race will begin at the Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa and wind through Stowe’s scenic countryside and along the Stowe Recreation Path. Stay after the race for the beer festival, featuring 45+ Vermont breweries, wineries and cideries. Register today.
