Vermont may be home to delicious, quality food, but hunger is an issue that hits closer to home than most of us think. It’s present in our community and is a significant issue in neighboring communities. That’s why Cork Wine Bar & Market, along with hosts Dave Wilkens and Molly Pindell, has organized ROOTS 2018, a fundraiser to support the Vermont Foodbank.

ROOTS 2018 will be a walk-around tasting event and cocktail party at the gorgeous Strawberry Hill Farm in Stowe on Saturday, June 9 from 5 – 9 p.m. This lively event will feature natural wines from around the world, beer and cider from Vermont, heavy hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants and producers and live music from Burn Petit (featuring Luke Smith of Strangefolk).

All proceeds from the event will support the Vermont Foodbank’s Vermonters Feeding Vermonters program, a new program designed to provide Vermonters facing hunger with healthy, local food. The goal of this program is to purchase approximately 150,000 pounds of high quality fruits and vegetables from Vermont growers and share with communities in need.

Our goal is to bring more awareness to this issue. The Vermont Foodbank and 12 Foodbank network partners in Lamoille County provide food to 24.7% of Lamoille’s population, according to the 2014 Hunger in America study completed by the Vermont Foodbank and Feeding America. 6,200 residents of Lamoille County’s total population of 25,082 have visited a Vermont Foodbank partner in the last year. 63.3% of Vermont Foodbank clients in Lamoille County report having to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities.

Among the sponsors and participants of this event are popular Stowe businesses, including:

  • The Bistro at Ten Acres
  • Harrison’s Restaurant & Bar
  • Harvest Market
  • Laughing Moon Chocolates
  • Piecasso Pizzeria & Lounge
  • Stowe Cider
  • Sushi Yoshi
  • Tres Amigos

Tickets to the event are $90 each. All wines from the tasting will be available for retail sale through Cork. Can’t make it to the event but still want to help support the cause? Direct donations are welcome. Any amount helps. To make a donation, please contact Danielle Nichols of Cork Wine Bar & Market, event director at [email protected].
