The installation includes coveted works by Faith Ringgold\, Romare Bearden\, and Robert Blackburn. \nStarted by Robert Blackburn in 1947\, EFA RBPMW has always been a co-operative printmaking workspace that provides professional-quality printmaking facilities to artists and printmakers of every skill level and is committed to inspiring and fostering its diverse artistic community. Internationally renowned multidisciplinary artist Chakaia Booker is best known for pioneering the use of recycled rubber tires as a raw material for monumental sculptural works. A fixture of the New York City East Village art scene since the early 1980’s\, Booker has exhibited across the US\, in Europe\, Africa\, and Asia with works included in more than 40 museum and private collections. \nBooker’s work has spanned decades with an intentionality of practice and purpose. She chooses discarded tires to create beauty from detritus\, and elegance from industry in a way that both simply is\, and yet has strong underpinnings of social and environmental justice. Her solo exhibition at The Current\, both inside and out\, highlights beauty and hardship\, tradition and caretaking\, and dives deep into Booker’s practice\, highlighting a monumental outdoor sculpture\, while inside The Current\, her photographs\, prints\, and indoor sculptures fill the galleries. The work asks the viewers to take time to listen\, lean in\, contemplate\, heal\, work\, create\, and be. \nBooker’s signature style stems from a modular approach to building an artwork through layering regardless of media or scale. Primarily a sculptor\, Booker works with rubber\, bronze\, and ceramics alongside a dedicated practice in painting and printmaking. “At my core I am an inventor\, looking for new forms and movements to express my ideas\, methods to manipulate materials and processes\, and ways to connect with an ever-changing audience.” – Chakaia Booker \nTaking Time: A solo exhibition by Chakaia Booker is curated by Rachel Moore. \nThe Current is your center for contemporary art. Exhibitions of acclaimed international and emerging artists. Adult and youth art classes and private lessons. School tours\, film screenings\, lectures\, outdoor exhibitions\, and summer art camps. All brought to you through the generous support of our town\, our members and our sponsors. Produced by Stowe Performing Arts\, the first concerts were held in Whisker’s Field on Mountain Road in 1976 and\, at the suggestion of Johannes von Trapp\, the concerts were moved to the meadow at Trapp Family Lodge in the early 1980s\, where they’ve continued every summer since. \nThe Trapp Family Lodge concert meadow acts as a natural amphitheater\, allowing concert performances to clearly project over the green and the gently sloping lawn provides a venue of unparalleled beauty and comfort. \nThe meadow opens two hours in advance of concerts\, and seating is picnic-style on a first come\, first served basis. There are designated\, well-marked areas for blankets\, low-back chairs and high-back chairs. These areas reflect the seating policy to guarantee each concert-attendee a view of the stage as well as the rolling hills of the Nebraska Valley. Ushers will be happy to help you find a great seat. \nLearn more and purchase your tickets here. \nShows run from 7-10 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for picnicking. \n\nJuly 7: Vermont Symphony Orchestra (will start at 7:30)\nJuly 28: Catherine Russell\nAugust 18: Ozomatli URL:https://gostowe.com/event/music-in-the-meadow-4/2024-07-28/ LOCATION:Trapp Family Lodge\, 700 Trapp Hill Rd.\, Stowe\, 05672\, United States CATEGORIES:Live Music,Performing Arts,Signature Event ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://gostowe.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Stowe-Performing-Arts_Music-in-the-Meadow_Summer.jpg GEO:44.4655744;-72.7446235 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Trapp Family Lodge 700 Trapp Hill Rd. Sculptures are sited on both public and private land throughout the village and at The Current. \nThis year celebrates artists of both national renown and those with emergent regional careers\, providing a diverse collection of perspectives for broad inspiration. Art can be a meaning- or change-maker\, a cultivator of conversation\, or a way to participate in and interpret the world. At its best\, art connects us to where we are in time or place\, whether physical or cerebral\, political or personal. It connects us with the people and the world around us\, asking questions\, and encouraging empathy and understanding. \nArtists \n\nChakaia Booker\nChris Curtis\nClark Derbes\nWoody De Othello\nJustin Kenney\nJohn Matusz\nOren Pinhassi\nDon Porcaro\nJonathan Prince\nJackson Tupper\nHank Willis Thomas URL:https://gostowe.com/event/exposed-outdoor-sculpture-exhibition-2/2024-07-31/ LOCATION:The Current\, 5 School Street\, PO Box 411\, Stowe\, VT\, 05672\, United States CATEGORIES:Arts & Culture,Community Event ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://gostowe.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Screen-Shot-2024-05-28-at-9.59.27-AM.png ORGANIZER;CN="The Current":MAILTO:gallery@thecurrentnow.org GEO:44.4649131;-72.6846278 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=The Current 5 School Street PO Box 411 Stowe VT 05672 United States;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=5 School Street\, PO Box 411:geo:-72.6846278,44.4649131 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20240731 DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20240801 DTSTAMP:20240731T093741 CREATED:20240530T205325Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240606T144737Z UID:10031189-1722384000-1722470399@gostowe.com SUMMARY:Climate Imprints DESCRIPTION:Climate Imprints\nJune 22 – October 19\, 2024\nOpening Reception Saturday\, June 22\, 2024\, 4-7 p.m. \nGallery Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.\, Monday – Friday\, Saturday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. \nFrom lithographs to embroidered screenprints to woodcuts\, The Current presents Climate Imprints\, curated by three master printmakers of the highly acclaimed EFA Blackburn Printmaking Workshop\, Chakaia Booker\, Tara Sabharwal\, and Justin Sanz. Witnessing the increasingly evident signs of the destruction of our livable environment weighs heavy on the minds of many artists and printmaking has historically served as a medium to consider and reflect on pressing current events. In this exhibition\, artists utilize various printmaking techniques including lithographs\, etchings\, monotypes\, digital prints\, collagraphs\, woodcuts\, chine collé\, and screenprints to examine their responses to the climate crisis and the interconnectedness of humans and nature. \nTo complement the exhibition\, the East Gallery and Art Lounge feature an educational installation on the EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop\, the oldest and longest-running community print shop in the United States. Today\, there are over 4\,000 artists with over 20\,000 prints in the archives. Over 60 countries are represented in The Print Archives. Blackburn’s workshop has been called the “Little United Nations\,” because of its continual support of artists from various ethnicities and backgrounds. \nArtists: John Andrews\, Chakaia Booker\, Edward Fausty\, Anna Flacco\, Rie Hasegawa\, Essye Klempner\, Shervone Neckles\, Mohammed Omar Khalil\, Tara Sabharwal\, Justin Sanz\, Sara Sears\, Yasuyo Tanaka\, and Ethan Tate. \nPublic Programs: \n\nThursday\, July 11\, 5-6:30 p.m.: Performance: Julian Barnett and Jocelyn Tobias\nThursday\, July 25\, 5-6:30 p.m.: Currently Speaking: How to start a Collection\, presented by London curator\, Carrie Scott.\nThursday\, August 15\, 5-6:30 p.m.: Currently Speaking:: Overlooked Women in Art/Gender imbalance in the art world\, presented by London curator\, Carrie Scott.\nThursday\, September 12\, 5-6:30 p.m.: Currently Speaking: Poetry readings\, read by Bianca Stone\, 2024 Vermont poet laureate\nThursday\, October 17\, 5-6:30 p.m.: Currently Speaking: In conversation\, exhibiting artists Chakaia Booker\, and Justin Sanz.\n\nClimate Imprints is curated by Chakaia Booker\, Tara Sabharwal\, and Justin Sanz.
