DESCRIPTION:The Current is pleased to announce a robust series of Gallery Engagement events aligned with the summer and fall exhibitions\, Taking Time: A solo exhibition by Chakaia Booker and Climate Imprints. These public programming events offer the local and more global community of visitors a series of opportunities to learn\, explore\, discover\, and engage with exhibition themes. Presenters have been invited based on their professional experience and capacity to inspire a curious audience. All listed  events are free and will be hosted from 5-6:30 p.m. at The Current. \nSCHEDULE \nThursday\, July 25: Currently Speaking: How to Start an Art Collection – A Transformative Talk for Aspiring Collectors\, presented by London curator Carrie Scott. This talk is for art enthusiasts and collectors starting their journey. Carrie Scott\, a curator with expertise in contemporary art\, will provide insights and advice on identifying personal tastes and navigating the art market. With over two decades of experience\, Scott is well-equipped to guide those looking to start their art collection. \nThursday\, August 15: Currently Speaking: Overlooked Women in Art – A Lecture Celebrating Forgotten Female Artists\, presented by London curator\, Carrie Scott. Interested in understanding the historical context and challenges faced by women in the art world? Join us for an enlightening lecture dedicated to illuminating female artists’ often-forgotten and underappreciated contributions throughout history. Together we will explore the historical neglect of female artists\, who have been overlooked and marginalized in the art world\, and the current efforts to re-evaluate and celebrate women’s contributions to art. \nThursday\, September 12: Currently Speaking: Poetry and Consciousness\, presented by Bianca Stone\, 2024 Vermont poet laureate. A poetry reading and talk will explore how our Cartesian confining of consciousness to the human brain has allowed for the unprecedented destruction of the natural world. This talk will discuss how poetry uniquely situates language as a medium in which to illuminate a much greater consciousness\, accessing complex psychical relations between people\, nature\, the cosmos\, and the unknowable. \nThursday\, October 17: Currently Speaking: Artist Talk\, presented by exhibiting artists\, Chakaia Booker and Justin Sanz. Booker and Sanz will discuss their respective artistic practices\, the history of the EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop where Chakaia creates her prints and Sanz is the Master Printmaker\, and their work with EFA RBPMW. \nABOUT THE EXHIBITIONS \nTaking Time: A solo exhibition by Chakaia Booker: Internationally renowned multidisciplinary artist Chakaia Booker is best known for pioneering the use of recycled rubber tires as a raw material for monumental sculptural works. A fixture of the New York City East Village art scene\nsince the early 1980’s\, Booker has exhibited across the US\, in Europe\, Africa\, and Asia\, with works included in more than 40 museum and private collections. \nClimate Imprints: From lithographs to embroidered screen prints to woodcuts\, The Current presents Climate Imprints\, curated by three master printmakers of the highly acclaimed EFA Blackburn Printmaking Workshop\, Chakaia Booker\, Tara Sabharwal\, and Justin Sanz.
