SUMMARY:Taking Time: A solo exhibition by Chakaia Booker
DESCRIPTION:Taking Time: A solo exhibition by Chakaia Booker\nJune 22 – October 19\, 2024\nOpening Reception Saturday\, June 22\, 2024\, 4-7pm \nGallery Hours: 10am-5pm\, Monday – Friday\, Saturday 10am-3pm \nThe Current is pleased to announce the opening of Taking Time: A solo exhibition by Chakaia Booker. Internationally renowned multidisciplinary artist Chakaia Booker is best known for pioneering the use of recycled rubber tires as a raw material for monumental sculptural works. A fixture of the New York City East Village art scene since the early 1980’s\, Booker has exhibited across the US\, in Europe\, Africa\, and Asia with works included in more than 40 museum and private collections. \nBooker’s work has spanned decades with an intentionality of practice and purpose. She chooses discarded tires to create beauty from detritus\, and elegance from industry in a way that both simply is\, and yet has strong underpinnings of social and environmental justice. Her solo exhibition at The Current\, both inside and out\, highlights beauty and hardship\, tradition and caretaking\, and dives deep into Booker’s practice\, highlighting a monumental outdoor sculpture\, while inside The Current\, her photographs\, prints\, and indoor sculptures fill the galleries. The work asks the viewers to take time to listen\, lean in\, contemplate\, heal\, work\, create\, and be. \nBooker’s signature style stems from a modular approach to building an artwork through layering regardless of media or scale. Primarily a sculptor\, Booker works with rubber\, bronze\, and ceramics alongside a dedicated practice in painting and printmaking. “At my core I am an inventor\, looking for new forms and movements to express my ideas\, methods to manipulate materials and processes\, and ways to connect with an ever-changing audience.†– Chakaia Booker \nTaking Time: A solo exhibition by Chakaia Booker is curated by Rachel Moore. \nThe Current is your center for contemporary art. Exhibitions of acclaimed international and emerging artists. Adult and youth art classes and private lessons. School tours\, film screenings\, lectures\, outdoor exhibitions\, and summer art camps. All brought to you through the generous support of our town\, our members and our sponsors.

The installation includes coveted works by Faith Ringgold\, Romare Bearden\, and Robert Blackburn. \nStarted by Robert Blackburn in 1947\, EFA RBPMW has always been a co-operative printmaking workspace that provides professional-quality printmaking facilities to artists and printmakers of every skill level and is committed to inspiring and fostering its diverse artistic community. Today\, there are over 4\,000 artists with over 20\,000 prints in the archives. Over 60 countries are represented in The Print Archives.

SUMMARY:Friday Night Music with Rob Fleming of Rhoseway (Solo)
DESCRIPTION:Stowe Cider welcomes Rob Fleming of Rhoseway (Solo) to their Friday Night music series on July 19 from 5-8 p.m. \nThis is a free show\, first come first served\, and you’re welcome to stay for as long as you’d like. No outside food or drink is allowed. \nAbout Rob:\nFor the Upstate NY-based singer & songwriter Rob Fleming\, RHOSEWAY is the given name of a creative solo project\, a truth-telling reflection\, and an artistic reaction to the choice to play music at all from years as a writer and performer in other projects. It’s an act of free expression through melody\, progression\, sounds\, and words that are based on feel. \nThe music comes from a renewed perspective to create something from nothing\, and play it live as either a stripped down dynamic solo performance\, or as a tight-knit\, organic full band hit suitable for a library to an outdoor festival\, featuring rhythm section Matt Niedbalski (drum kit)\, and Steve Kirsty (bass)\, both seasoned active musicians on their own. The music finds its place as effectually layered dynamic and melodic droning\, in the form of indie-alternative rock\, with leanings of Neil Young meets Jeff Buckley & Radiohead. Riding on three separate two track singles\, the latest being the harmonious lush of 2022’s COUNTRY SUNRISE\, and up-tempo guitar flourishing of 2023’s CLOAK & DAGGER.

SUMMARY:Cider Saturday with Nick Bredice at Stowe Cider
DESCRIPTION:Stowe Cider welcomes back Nick Bredice to their Cider Saturday music series on July 20 from 4-7 p.m. \nThis is a free show\, first come first served\, and you’re welcome to stay for as long as you’d like.
