Stowe, Vermont’s world-class trail system has long been a destination for Nordic skiers from near and far. Ranked the #1 Best Cross-Country Ski Resort in North America by USA Today, the Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center is the largest cross-country ski center in Stowe, featuring 37 miles of groomed trails and 62 miles of backcountry trails suitable for skiers of all ages and abilities.

Trapp Family Lodge is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Outdoor Center with a weeklong celebration filled with events including cross-country skiing with the von Trapp family and social gatherings that are open to all. Other local organizations are also hosting events in honor of the von Trapps and their lasting impact on the community.

As discussed in this CNN Travel article, the von Trapp family’s story was the inspiration for movie, The Sound of Music. The von Trapps would eventually settle in Vermont, which reminded them of their home in Austria. Johannes von Trapp, president and CEO, had a vision for the Trapp Family Lodge, which has grown to become a four-season destination.

Enjoy this video of Johannes and his son Sam von Trapp with both new and vintage shots of their enchanting property and celebrated cross-country ski trails.
