Stowe Businesses Go Straw-Free to Help Protect Environment
June 20, 2018 by RACHEL VANDENBERG, STOWE BOWL
Stowe, Vermont is abundant with beautiful vistas, pristine landscapes and varied natural resources that serve as an outdoor playground for hard-core adventurers as well as those just wanting to explore a mountain trail or quiet lake. The people who live and work here – those who provide food, lodging and experiences for our visitors – know that it’s important to make every effort to protect natural resources and make it part of everything they do. That is why in May, seven Stowe restaurants have pledged to eliminate plastic straws for in-restaurant dining by the end of 2018.
Stowe businesses pledge to be plastic straw-free
Every year millions of tons of plastic end up in our oceans, forests and other natural environments. Stowe businesses and community members at large are committed to do their part to change this story. Stowe restaurants including Stowe Bowl, Piecasso Pizzeria & Lounge, Lighthouse Bar & Grill (at the Commodores Inn), Sushi Yoshi, Stowe Mountain Resort (cafeterias), The Hourglass and Solstice Restaurants (at Stowe Mountain Lodge), Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa are going straw-free. They join a worldwide campaign to stop the use of plastic straws and contribute to the reduction of plastic in our landfills and oceans. Along with widespread support in the community, other Stowe-area businesses like The Butchery and Stowe Meadows Lodge are showing their support and taking the pledge.
Why a vacation in Stowe feels so good
Stowe’s natural beauty, combined with an appreciation and stewardship for this special place, make it a destination where people are drawn to visit, explore and leave feeling better than when they arrived. People return year after year for the chance to feel re-energized, re-charged and relaxed all at the same time. It’s an effect referred to as “Stowe Response,” stemming from the relaxation response – a peaceful, restorative, restful state produced by daily meditation that induces serenity and improves health, as coined by a Harvard Medical School physician in 1974.
Local efforts that make this such a great destination
There are efforts big and small, prominent and behind-the-scenes, that are ensuring both Stowe and the State of Vermont remain a clean and beautiful place for residents and visitors to experience and appreciate well into the future. We hope you join us in supporting the initiative by going without a plastic straw or using sustainable alternatives. #strawfreestowe
