Stowe Arts Week Takes Over Stowe July 20 – 28

Stowe is a popular year-round destination for the arts. On the heels of a successful first Stowe Arts Week last year, the Stowe Arts & Culture Council is hosting its second annual event from July 20 – 28, 2019. The week-long celebration of local artists, performers and art lovers will showcase Stowe’s rich arts community and deep connection to the arts. It’s going to be a great, arts-filled week!
Events are happening all over town, so it’s a great way for visitors to get to know, appreciate and participate in Stowe’s arts culture. At the same time, visitors get to interact with the local community and experience the breathtaking landscape of Stowe. Not to mention one of the coolest ways to experience Stowe Arts Week is on foot.
This summer’s events kick off with Helen Day Art Center’s Exposed exhibit, a collection of outdoor sculptures throughout the historic Stowe village. The opening walkabout takes place on Saturday, July 20 at 4 p.m. at the Helen Day Art Center. That same evening, Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center presents Judy Collins in concert.
One of my favorite events during Stowe Arts Week truly makes the hills come alive with the sound of music: Stowe Performing Arts presents the Bumper Jacksons in the Trapp Family Meadow on Sunday, July 21. Picnicking begins as 5:30 p.m., and there’s always an informal contest to see who has the best picnic spread in the audience. Then the music begins, and the stars come out for a stunning end to the day.
And there’s plenty more to do and see throughout the week. Some other events I’m excited to see are Art on Park, the weekly outdoor artisan market in the Village that returns the evening of Thursday, July 25. From there, theater buffs can take in the Stowe Theatre Guild’s production of Anne Frank. On Friday, July 26, several of our local art galleries team up for an exciting Gallery Walk.
