by GO STOWE

There are many ways to relax and enjoy summer nights in Stowe, but nothing is quite as marvelous as Saturday Cinema on the Lawn. Dress in costume, enjoy movie-themed concessions and other special features and spend quality time with friends and family at a lawn party before one of two outdoor film screenings at dusk on July 20 and August 10.

The events take place on the Helen Day Art Center/Stowe Free Library lawn. Movie nights are free of charge and open to the public. The first outdoor film to be shown is Grease on Saturday, July 20. Kick off the night dressed as your favorite character at the 50’s themed lawn party at 6:30 p.m. complete with a DJ, hula hoop contests and a piñata for the kiddies, and free ice cream floats. After enjoying the concessions, grab your blanket and or lawn chairs for the start of the movie at dusk – usually around 9 p.m.

Insider Tip: This event is one of several that are part of the second annual Stowe Arts Week. Check out “Exposed” outdoor sculpture on the Helen Day Art Center lawn and explore other summer art events in the village, along the Mountain Road and beyond.

Get your wands ready for the showing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone on Saturday, August at 6 p.m. Children and families can partake in sing-alongs and activities leading up to the film start around 8:30 p.m. It’s truly a magical experience being in Stowe at dusk, with the iconic church aglow. There will also be a chance to win a Harry Potter toy chest!

Insider Tip: Be sure to fuel up before heading to the show, there are plenty of fabulous dinner spots in Stowe’s historic village. Be sure to save room on the movie-themed concessions!
