Kick-Start Holiday Shopping and Support Local on Small Business Saturday
November 14, 2019 by JILL ZBOROVANCIK, VON BARGEN’S JEWELRY
It’s the most wonderful time of the year in Stowe. It’s true! There’s something special about the crispness of the air, a fresh coat of snow, and the warm glow of our little town as the holidays approach. Here, business owners are passionate about making your gift-giving unique, fun and seamless. Come celebrate the season of giving by shopping in Stowe on Saturday, November 30 for Small Business Saturday, and make your holiday shopping experience a memorable one! Tour the town with me here; I’ll introduce you to the best places to find holiday gifts for the fashionistas, foodies and adventurers in your life.
Shopping in the Village.
The historic Stowe Village is the heart of town, and is a destination worth spending some time exploring. Along with excellent options for gift shopping, you’ll also find world-class dining in a quintessential New England setting. The Country Store on Main has an array of kitchen gadgets, pottery, linens, decor and bedding. Next door is Stowe Public House, a great spot to discover a new brew at their bar and stock up on premium craft beverages for your holiday party. Shaw’s General Store with Rufus the monkey outside on the bench, and Stowe Mercantile with Mr. Bear outside, both have all the Vermont gifts and maple syrup, shoes, clothes and books you need. Just past the Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum is Von Bargen’s Jewelry, a second generation family-owned jewelry store where I work, featuring fine diamonds and artisan jewelry. Stowe is our newest location, and we have been here five years. Remarkable Things at Stowe Craft and Laughing Moon Chocolates are our neighbors across the street. Wrap up shopping in the village with hand-made gifts, and fresh chocolates! I love to watch them make it. Be sure to stop by the Small Business Saturday Welcome Center inside the Stowe visitor center for swag, coupons, giveaways and more.
Dining in the Village.
After some time strolling around on your feet, take a rest and fuel up for more shopping. Butler’s Pantry has the best eggs Benedict around, among other delicious award-winning options. Café on Main is the perfect place for lunch; warm up with a hot bowl of soup and hearty sandwich. The Whip Bar & Grill, located inside the historic Green Mountain Inn, is ideal for dinner and drinks. Across the street is Harrison’s Restaurant, a town favorite for fine dining. It’s a cozy restaurant tucked in off the street, so don’t miss it!
More on Mountain Road.
Route 108, a.k.a. “the Mountain Road,” is scattered with lots of diverse stores and restaurants. In Company Clothing and Tangerine & Olive feature high-end women’s apparel, accessories and gifts. AJ’s Ski & Sports has all the winter gear and equipment for the outdoor enthusiast in your life. For savory bites nearby, stroll to Doc Ponds for a great burger and the best tap beer selection. Across the road is Ranch Camp, both a bike shop and casual restaurant with access to Cady Hill mountain bike trails—so cool! Pick up breakfast for on-the-go at The Bagel. Harvest Market, Commodities Natural Market and The Butchery are incredible markets with breads and Vermont specialty goods that make entertaining easy. Get to Stowe Bee Bakery & Café early for real hot chocolate and one of their famous pop-overs and, yes—they do run out! Pinnacle Ski & Sports, now in a brand-new location, are happy to get you ski- or ride-ready. BunyaBunya and Green Envy are ready to style you with unique women’s apparel and accessories.
Kick Back and Unwind.
Did I mention there are spas in Stowe? Be pampered at The Spa at Stoweflake, conveniently located near several shops and another Welcome Center at Stowe Kitchen Bath & Linens. Experience the epitome of luxury at the Spa at Spruce Peak, located inside the Lodge at Spruce Peak. Or after a relaxing massage at Stowe Village Massage, walk to Cork Wine Bar & Market. This is my favorite place for wine, dinner and live music. Make yourself at home by the fire while enjoying a fabulous glass of natural wine.
Locals Give Back.
These small businesses really care about their community. We come together throughout the year for special events that benefit numerous charitable organizations. Small Business Saturday is a way to support us, find unique gifts for the holidays, and feel good knowing that we do our part to do good here in Stowe.
