Over the river and through the woods, to the best place to view fall colors in the country! What makes fall so special in Stowe? The many unique ways you can leaf peep! (Leaf peeping is the activity of traveling in the fall to view the changing color of the leaves). See why Stowe was recently voted a 10 best U.S. destinations to view fall foliage by USA Today for the third year in a row, and one of the best small towns in the U.S. to see fall foliage by Travel + Leisure. Experience the autumn colors in a whole new manner this fall, including by land, by air and by water.

By Land

Start your leaf peeping journey by land while on foot, bike or car. Scenic drives are a popular way to take in the foliage at different elevations while also seeing classic Vermont scenes with covered bridges and barns. A drive up the Auto Toll Road takes you to the top of Mt. Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak, for sweeping views. For more peak views, choose between more than 45 hikes or ride through the trees across more than 65 miles of mountain bike trails. For a more leisurely exploration, walk or ride the Stowe Recreation Path with river and mountain views, and check out the Percy Farm Corn Maze along the way for a true fall day. Stowe’s beautifully manicured golf courses are another fun way to experience the fall beauty.

By Air

Soar above the trees and look down at the red, orange and yellow hues that cover the mountains in Stowe at Arbortrek Canopy Adventures, named by USA Today one of “10 Best Zipline Courses in the USA.” For a picturesque Stowe scene, take a ride up the Gondola Skyride at Stowe Mountain Resort for stunning views of the Stowe valley.

By Water

Feel the serenity of the crisp fall air and vibrant colors while out on the water. Paddle the Waterbury Reservoir on kayak, canoe or paddle board. For a guided tour, enjoy a fall foliage boat ride with Fly Rod Shop where you can learn about the fall season in Vermont. Fall in Vermont also offers great fishing in local waterways, whether with a guide or out solo you will surely be able to connect with nature in the most colorful of ways.
